WASHINGTON, 1 Dec — the Russian Diaspora in the United States began a campaign aimed at saving the Russian part of the name state historic Park Russian Fort Elizabeth, located on the former site of the Elizabethan fortress on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, said the President of the Congress of Russian Americans Natalie Sabelnik.

“This fortress was built by the Russian-American company in 1817. However, the group of Hawaiians want to completely delete the words “Elizabeth castle” (Russian Fort Elizabeth — ed.) from the title… According to them, the fortress was built only Hawaiians, but not Russian,” said Cinquefoil.

The Congress of Russian Americans and Russian center in new York, has written several open letters for the preservation of historical names, and a group of activists created a petition, said Cinquefoil.
