WASHINGTON, 12 Oct — the United States welcomes the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to extend the law on the special status of Donbass, said state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.
The Ukrainian Parliament last week extended until the end of 2019 the law on the special status of Donbass. Later, he was signed by the President Petro Poroshenko. According to permanent representative of Russia to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich, this decision has nothing to do with the Minsk agreements.
“The United States congratulates the Ukrainian Parliament and the Ukrainian leadership with the extension of the law on the special status of the Russian-controlled regions in Eastern Ukraine. The extension of this law … demonstrates the ongoing commitment of Ukraine to the peaceful solution of the conflict and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Bold step of Ukraine towards the world brightly different from the failure of Russia to fulfil its Minsk commitments,” — said in a statement released by Nauert.
