The mining of uranium ores
MOSCOW, 5 Dec – a Mysterious epidemic of heart disease and lung problems afflicting the Indian tribes-Navajo southern, was connected with dust from abandoned uranium mines. To such conclusion ecologists, published an article in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters.
“We have found that uranium dust that enters the lungs is absorbed by immune cells and together they spread throughout the body. All this suggests that regulators need to carefully check all mine,” the scientists write.
Uranium, like many other heavy metals, not only radioactive, but also toxic. Its compounds and nanoparticles can accumulate in the liver, lungs, kidneys and other organs, leading to massive cell death within them, damage their DNA and the development of severe disease.
