MOSCOW, 4 Dec – There are at least three potential unintended military clashes of the Russian Federation and the United States in the next few years, said the Deputy Director of the Center for comprehensive European and international studies, NRU HSE Dmitry Suslov.
“In the next few years, in the short and medium term, this global confrontation is fraught with very serious risks. It and risk a direct military confrontation between Russia and the United States, which objectively is on the rise. In my opinion, there are at least three scenarios for unintentional direct military confrontation between Russia and the United States” — Suslov said during the expert discussion “international security 2018: status and prospects”.
According to him, the first risk is associated with cybersecurity or cyber threat that one country considers a cyber attack against themselves as the beginning of a full-scale attack and responds not only cybersettle, but by military means. “The second risk is of an uncontrolled arms race, including the placement of intermediate-range and shorter-range land-based in Europe. I think we will come to this reality, unfortunately, in a few years”, — said Suslov.
