Russian President Vladimir Putin.
MOSCOW, 5 Dec — If the United States believes that should have a weapon that now falls under the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty), Russia also will do it, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The President recalled that in 2002 the US unilaterally withdrew from the ABM Treaty, which was one of the cornerstones of international security as a whole. “However, they did not hesitate, quietly came out, incidentally, without any reference to anything, just come out and be done with it. Now the same is happening actually, but I guess who would blame this, in my opinion, imprudent,” — said Putin.
He called the principle of intuitive arguments that only the US and Russia do not produce weapons under the INF Treaty. “It’s true, really. Many other countries — there are already a dozen, probably — produce such weapons, while Russia and the United States themselves on a bilateral basis restricted. Now, apparently, our American partners believe that the situation has changed so that the United States should have such weapons. What kind of response on our part? Yes, a simple: then we also will do it”, — concluded the Russian leader.
