TEL AVIV, Dec 1 — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on behalf of the people of Israel expressed his condolences in connection with death of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush, noting among his achievements contributed to “the liberation of Soviet Jewry”.
During the Bush presidency, the Soviet authorities have lifted restrictions on the emigration of Jews, over a million of whom moved to Israel in those years.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of the citizens of Israel extend their heartfelt condolences to the Bush family and the American people in connection with the death of a great American patriot, President George Herbert Walker Bush. It responsible and wise leadership at the end of the cold war ensured the growth in the number of democracies in maintaining peace in the world,” the statement said Netanyahu.
