WASHINGTON, 30 Nov – NASA has selected nine private companies to bid on sending research projects to the moon, said Thursday the head of the organization Jim Breidenstein, whose performance was broadcast on the NASA website.
The selected companies included Astrobotic Technology, Deep Space Systems, Draper, Firefly Aerospace, Intuitive Machines, Lockheed Martin Space, Masten Space Systems, Moon Express, Orbit Beyond. The most famous and largest of them is Lockheed Martin Space, a regular contractor for NASA and the U.S. army in the development and creation of spacecrafts. In the announced list does not include private company SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk had previously announced plans to colonize Mars.
As explained in NASA contracts in the framework of commercial deliveries of cargo to the moon (Commercial Lunar Payload Services, CLPS) in the coming decade will be allocated $ 2.6 billion. Choose the contractors, NASA will be in the course of tenders, when comparing the technical capabilities, cost and schedule, the Ministry reported.
