MOSCOW, 4 Dec — Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Bondarev, commenting on the words of US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo about the possible suspension of the obligations of the Washington Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles, said that in the event of termination by the United States INF Treaty Russia will respond by accelerating the development and adoption of “unique” weapons.
On Tuesday, the US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that Washington urges Moscow to return to the implementation of the INF Treaty within two months. According to him, the US will suspend its obligations if the Russian Federation after 60 days will not return to the performance of the contract.
“We believe that the observance of the INF Treaty and calling for its retention. This is the official position of the Russian leadership. However, in the case of termination by the Americans we will be forced to answer a series of measures, including accelerating the development and adoption of unique weapons,” — said Bondarev.
